ParindaAmar Naik found his way back into the big screen in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film Parinda. The film told the story of Amar Naik and his brother Ashwin. Jackie Shroff played the older brother Amar and Anil Kapoor played Ashwin Naik. Though a good part of the film is fictionalised, it told how one's brother's deeds draws the other into the world of crime.

Game
Game by Anil Mattoo was another movie, which raised a lot of eyebrows. The film had fascinating performances by some very well-known names. Naseeruddin Shah played a character that reminded audiences of Dawood, Aditya Panscholi played Bada Rajan and Rahul Roy played Chota Rajan. Kiran Kumar played the famous gangster Samad Khan. Needless to say, with so many gangsters in the film, Game was based on gang wars in Mumbai. The film went onCompany
This one, again by RGV, fictionalised the rise and fall of the haloed D-Company. It also traced the fallout of Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan (played by Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi respectively) and the effect it had on the Mumbai underworld. It was possibly for the first time that a real-life police officer was fictionalised so well in a film. Mohanlal played D Sivanandan, the man who many hold responsible for the downfall of Dawood in Mumbai.Interestingly, Haji Mastan also appears as one of the characters in this film, though he is shown as a helpless old don. Company remains one of RGV's most acclaimed efforts after Satya. Cast: Ajay Devgan, Mohanlal, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas, Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali

Vaastav
Mahesh Manjrekar's Vaastav was allegedly based on the true-life story of Chota Rajan. Sanjay Dutt played the lead role. The film, it was said, was partly financed by Rajan himself. Not surprisingly, the portrayal of the don was very sympathetic.
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Shirodkar, Reema Lagoo, Shivaji Satam and Sanjay Narvekar to win a lot of accolades.
Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Aditya Panscholi, Rahul Roy and Kiran Kumar

AgneepathHe may have played an outcast in many films before this. But it was only after Deewar that Amitabh did a full-length gangster flick in the form of Agneepath. His role was supposedly based on the Maharashtrian gangster Manya Surve. The film bombed at the box-office, especially since Bachchan had also tried to copy the man's voice. Produced by Yash Johar and directed by the late Mukul S Anand, the film did win a lot of awards.
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Neelam and Danny Dengzongpa

Satya
For quite some time, gangster films disappeared from the marquee. But it was Satya that brought them back into fashion. In fact, Satya also became one of the most important films of the 'Mumbai underworld' genre. And Satya was Ram Gopal Varma's first in a series of films like Company and D. It was supposed to be have been inspired by the friends-turned-foes gangster Arun Gawli and politician Mohan Rawle. Manoj Bajpai played Arun Gawli and Govind Namdeo played Mohan Rawle.
Cast: JD Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpai, Shefali Shah and Govind Namdeo

Over the years, stories of criminals, gangsters and their vamps have fascinated Bollywood. And time and again filmmakers here have taken up these subjects, passionately exploring the mysterious lives of the men and women who live on the wrong side of the law. We bring you 15 such films that have drawn their inspiration from real life dons.
Deewar
This superhit film of the '70s told the story of a dockworker (played by Amitabh) who goes on to become a dreaded underworld don. A known fact perhaps but Deewar is said to be based on the life of Haji Mastan, the legendary Mumbai underworld don. Insiders even insist that Bachchan went to meet Mastan to study his mannerisms.
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi

Dharmatma
Produced and directed by Feroz Khan, Dharmatma was inspired by the Hollywood blockbuster The Godfather. The real-life anti-hero in this case was Ratan Khatri, a big time gambling kingpin. Just like Bachchan, Feroz Khan, too, apparently spent time with Khatri, understanding the nuances of 'matka', the form of Indian gambling he practiced. But it was Premnath played the title role.
Cast: Feroz Khan, Rekha, Hema Malini, Premnath, Danny Denzongpa, Farida Jalal, Ranjeet, Helen, Madan Puri, Iftekhar and Dara Singh

Though Shah Rukh Khan was not there, fellow Bollywood actor Salman Khan danced with a bevy of starlets to popular chartbusters amid razzmatazz, setting the tempo before the start of the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) final between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on Sunday.
Salman, always a crowd puller, had the audience swaying as he performed to songs from his forthcoming film with an entourage of 24 dancers in the background. Kim Sharma, Shamita Shetty, Dia Mirza and Sameera Reddy also shared the stage with him at the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul.
They also danced to the theme songs of the eight teams that participated in the first edition of the IPL.

Yes, our very own Tabu who post a failed attempt at looking sexy in Prem opposite Sanjay Kapoor had stuck to serious cinema is back with her all glam avatar in K Raghavendra Rao's Telugu film Pandurangadu. In this vividly colourful movie, Tabu will play the other woman complete with provocative costumes (we could not call it anything else) opposite Telugu superstar, son of the legendary NTR, Balakrishna. Apparently, this role was supposed to be South Indian siren Simran's big comeback post motherhood. But our Bolly babe has grabbed on the role and dropped some very useful pieces of clothing as well for it. Here's the first look of the film

Dear, dear! After the much-publicised turbulence in their relationship, the only place where John and Bips would have been seen together is in a hair tonic advertisment. And now that too is history. The other day when driving around town, I saw some huge hoardings with John posing for the same brand, but minus Bipasha. Running her fingers through John's hair is some anorexic model. She is not a patch on our Bips, lemme tell you. I have been told the contract with the company is yet to come to an end, though the relationship seems to have ended faster than the 30-seconders. Meanwhile the hair tonic guys I believe are trying hard to figure out a way of this mess. Dear, dear! If you remember, I had told you about Vidya Balan and Shahid Kapur long before anyone else. And just yesterday, an intrepid reporter told me how he caught the two travelling to the latter's home after an event. Vidya was attending a press conference for her next film Halla Bol at a suburban Mumbai hotel. After giving out sound bytes, posing for pictures and the works, she stepped into her black Honda CRV. 50 metres away from the hotel's main gate, the car stopped; the driver got off and started signalling furiously towards someone behind. Seconds later, a silver Toyota Innova pulled over and before you could say 'Jack Robinson', Vidya jumped out of her car and promptly stepped into the silver Innova. Not to be outdone, my eager beaver reporter friend decided to follow them in an auto rickshaw (oh yes, sometimes the three wheeler can work wonders in Mumbai traffic).Apparently glasses in the Innova were so tinted that absolutely nothing was visible. In fact, a small patch close to the side-view mirror was especially left uncovered for the driver to see the oncoming traffic. While this reporter friend was not quite sure about who else was in the car with the actress, his question was answered when at a particular traffic signal he saw a silhouette (which looked like Shahid's) changing position, from the navigator's to the passenger's seat.Somewhere along, the twosome realised they were being followed and tried changing course. Of course, the measly rickshaw was no match for the mighty Innova and our friend almost lost them twice. But then again, thanks to the traffic he found himself barely inches away from the powerful machine. The couple knew they would be on firmer grounds when they reached the area near Shahid's home, which has a lot of by lanes and trees right in the middle of the roads. Little did they realise that manoeuvring a rickshaw is far simpler than driving an SUV. So all attempts of trying to outrun the rickshaw failed.
